What if oil and gas extraction become international crimes? Genocide means the killing of an ethnic group or nation. A new crime of “ecocide” would mean destruction of our earth. Climate-destroying corporations and governments could be sued under this crime by the International Criminal Court (ICC). Jojo Mehta, executive director of the advocacy organization Stop Ecocide, describes the campaign to pursue the crime of ecocide. And she says ecocide has enormous potential to slow down polluters through public shaming and other means, even before a single lawsuit is won.
